Nanocosmos

Nanocosmos is a series of piano pieces I composed for my son, Ezra, as he developed as a pianist. They span the years 2004-2012, from the first year he took lessons up to his second recital. The pair I am posting here were performed by Ezra on his 2012 recital at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. The earlier of the two, Bright One, is the second in the series, and Dark Blue One was composed to go with Bright One. It is intended to reflect both my interest in the piano music of Debussy and the fact that Debussy's “The Girl With the Flaxen Hair” was on the same program. Of course, the overall title, Nanocosmos, is a nod in the direction of the voluminous contribution of Bela Bartok to repertoire for the developing pianist, with the implicit realization that my little set is tiny by comparison.
